Homestays in Russia and Ukraine
Ever consider a homestay with a Russian or Ukrainian family?
Russian homestays not only provide an affordable alternative to
expensive accommodations like hotels and apartments,
they also provide a unique insight into the
lives and culture of local people.
Where does one find a suitable homestay and what
are the costs?
There are two Russian homestay options.
The first one is to utilize the phenomenon that is
changing the travel industry.
- Free accommodations on a hospitality
homestay network
- The second is the more traditional pay for
stay homestay
Where do the two differ and which is better? In
many ways they are quite similar. Option one is
cheaper (obviously), but it's also short term.
Option two requires you to pay, but often comes with
meals, gives you more privacy (your own room) and
allows you to stay long term if you are overseas for
study or work.
We've listed three of the most popular
hospitality exchange sites below. Just by browsing
these three sites, you'll be able to find free
homestay accommodations in thousands of welcoming
homes throughout Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova,
Kazakhstan, Latvia, etc.

CouchSurfing
A worldwide network
for making connections between travelers and the local communities they visit.
When we last checked, there were almost 4000 Russians and roughly 700 Ukrainians
who were offering their homes to foreign visitors. |
 |
The Hospitality Club
Their aim is to bring
people together - hosts and guests, travelers and locals. Nice feature about the
site is the breakdown into regions and cities within Russia, Ukraine, Belarus,
etc., so you can quickly find a homestay in the area you will be traveling to. |

GlobalFreeloaders
GlobalFreeloaders.com is an online community, bringing people together to offer you
free accommodation all over the world. Although they have a smaller membership
than the first two sites, there is still quite a comprehensive database of
members from Russia, Ukraine and across Eastern Europe. |
We will be working to compile a network of
homestays in the future.
For now you can still search for accommodations
from the list of cities.
