Khabarovsk Travel Guide
Khabarovsk (Хабаровск) is situated at the confluence of the Amur and Assuri rivers, a mere 30km from the Chinese boarder (see map). With over 600,000 inhabitants it is the second largest city in the Russian Far East after Vladivostok.
Khabarovsk sees a great deal of international visitors. It is not only the last major stop along the Trans-Siberian Railway before Vladivostok, but in recent years it has become a popular business center with Chinese, Korean and Japanese corporations looking to invest in Russia's abundant resources.
It is a picturesque city with vibrant markets and numerous museums, theaters, and libraries. Notable attractions include the Regional Lore Museum and Natural History Museum, as well as the Khabarovsk Art Museum, which exhibits a rare collection of old Russian icons. Another must see is the nearby Nanaian settlement of Sikhachi-Alyan, where cliff drawings from roughly 1,300 years ago can be found.
