Lower (Far) Caves of the Lavra
Kiev Pechersk Lavra is one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine, and was named a World Heritage Cultural Site in 1990 (in conjunction with Saint Sofia's Cathedral). The following are a few of the areas historical monuments. Within these territories are numerous architectural monuments, ranging from bell towers and cathedrals to underground cave systems and stone fortification walls.
St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery: Currently a functioning monastery, it originated in the 12th century, saw the construction of the cathedral and bell tower in the 18th century, was destroyed by Soviets in the 1930's, then reconstructed anew after Ukraine's independence.
