Sharapova, born in Nyagan, Russia, was a former
World's No. 1 professional tennis player. Sharapova
has won three Grand Slam singles
tournaments including the 2004 Wimbledon title,
the 2006 US Open, and the 2008 Australian Open. Off
court she's used her good looks in modeling and
endorsements, becoming one of the world's highest
paid female athletes. In 2010, even at the end of
her peak play in women's professional tennis, Maria
Sharapova inked an eight year deal with Nike
purported to be worth an estimated $70 million (the
most lucrative deal of its time for any
sportswoman).
