Prince Yaroslav the Wise

Monument to Yaroslav the Wise, eventual Grand Prince of Kiev Rus, who as a young prince founded the town of Yaroslavl as an outpost of the Principality of Rostov Veliky.

Elijah the Prophet Church

Built 1647-1650 by brothers Anikey and Nifantey Skripin, merchants who made their fortune trading Siberian furs.

Alexander Nevsky Chapel

Built in 1892, Alexander Nevsky Chapel is relatively new when compared to its contemporaries in the historic Golden Ring city of Yaroslvl.

St John the Baptist Church

Built in 1671-1687 on the bank of Kotorosl River, the Church of St. John the Precursor is shown on the back of the 1000 Ruble banknote.

Yaroslavl Monastery

Part of the Yaroslavl Historical and Architectural Museum, the Savior Transfiguration Monastery (seen in the photo) was founded in the 12th century. Present day structures within the monastery date back to the early 16th century.

Volkov Theatre

Yaroslavl theater named for F.G. Volkov (1729–63), former Yaroslavl resident who is considered to be the founder of Russian theater. It was here, in the theater that bears his name, where he organized his first dramatic performance in 1750.
