Men in traditional dress of Zaporozhian Cossacks. These unique peoples evolved from the 15th to 18th centuries, when serfs fleeing the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth and Russian Empire formed a strong political and military force in the Dnieper region of present day Zaporozhye.

Located on Khortitsa Island is a historical museum that incorporates indoor exhibits (paintings, maps and antique artifacts), along with a replica outdoor fortress and wood structures to give you an idea of how the Zaporizhian Sich looked in the past.

Zaporozhye monument is dedicated to pilots of the Soviet Union's 17th Air Army (of the Soviet Air Force), that played an integral role in liberating the city from Fascist invaders during the Second World War.
